Calcutta University is a collegiate public state research University In the capital city Kolkata of West Bengal. Calcutta University is the first multidisciplinary and western-style institution in Asia. At present, there are 151 colleges and 21 institutes affiliated with Calcutta University. The University has given the highest number of students who have cleared the national eligibility test (NET). 

The university has 19,004 students, including 2,871 undergraduates, 12,353 postgraduates, and 3,780 doctoral students. The University has 100s of dedicated faculty members that make Calcutta University one of the finest institutes in the country. 

The University has achieved the title of ‘5-star University’ and accredited Grade ‘A’ by NAAC. Kolkata University has also earned the status of centre with potential for excellence in a particular area by University Grants Commission (UGC).

Calcutta University has a dedicated placement cell that organizes on-campus and off-campus placement drives, each year. The university is yet to release the 2023 placement statistics. • Library: Calcutta University has a total collection of more than 10 lakh books and 200000 volumes of bound journals. The university contains more than 20 departmental libraries. The department of law library holds more than 85000 books in hard copy.
